SOA and the Zachman Framework

SOA meets EA: ZapThink :: Research - SOA and the Zachman Framework

Service Orientation (SO) is a business movement, where organizations are better able to leverage information technology (IT) in agile ways to meet ever-changing business needs. For SOA to be the architecture that enables such broad agility and change in organizations, it’s essential for architects to eventually apply the entire Zachman Framework to SOA.

Is SOA about agility? Some would argue that SOA does not represents what the Agile movement is trying to achieve. Perhaps because SOA introduces to many layers that would make any XP programmer gag. But what if SOA is about giving the business the agility they need? I’ve mentioned before that Agile’ist typically focus on their time spent behind a keyboard, but Agile methodology is catching on outside the developer’s sphere of influence. Processes like SCRUM provide a framework for task and priority management.

Bottom line: SOA facilitates business agility.
